Breast cancer prevention: Time for change
Chair of the Newson Health Menopause Society, Dr Louise Newson, recently wrote an article for the International Menopause Society’s newsletter on breast cancer prevention.
The article discusses the long term consequences that the 2002 Women’s Health Initiative study had on HRT prescribing over the following two decades, and the result these misconceptions has had on women’s future health.
As the benefits of taking HRT far outweigh any risks, women should be reassured and its use should not be restricted, even in women with an increased risk of developing breast cancer.
